Dear Barbara

My name is Shawn(Sung-hoon) Suh. I was one of the fortunate visitors to join your D.class with Michael Hwang(Video Factory) at October 14th.

I have a confession to make. I'm not actually Michael Hwang's co-worker but a friend who is also trying to corporate a startup company. I even canceled my lunch appointment and asked Michael if I can join his time in Stanford, because I was so curious what is the factor that makes Stanford University so special. And I think I found it. It is because of the professors and faculties with intellectual leadership and mindset to educate their students to be the world changers.

Your class was so fun and sweet in a sense it really provokes student's intellectual hunger.
1. Help enable us to understand me and the world with our own reflection.
2. Provokes our intelligence to dig into interesting questions.
3. Sharing stories with each other enables us to indirectly share other's experience and feelings which broadens my empathy and understanding about others.
4. The words you put on the PPT was so distilled I loved to write it down.
5. David's writing shows how he tried to challenge his writing skills.

With out a lie I have thought of writing an email to you everyday. I even wrote down what to write on the email 2 weeks ago on my note, but I came late at home every night exhausted and I did not wanted to write an email to you without taking my most time possible because I wanted to ask you something important that is directly related to my vision and myself.

I did not wanted to disturb the class as a guest so I didn't ask you the question but here it is now.
Cole said about how you make smart people to be themselves and how you pull that out of people, it really triggered me to know how you did it. That was something that I really wanted to do to my employees when I build my company back in South Korea. Scolding is same as ruining and rebuilding that person. It is not wrong to scold unless it really have a love inside. Scolding everyone is very energy consuming and it does not motivate people unless they have a grit. I want to learn how to motivate and bring people's potential truly.

My vision is to change the world. One of the things I will do to change the world is to make a company that maximize people's potential and where they can pursue their own dreams.
I believe human is not created to earn money but to realize their dream because each of them have a special talent inside them. I will make a company where employee can find their own genius and maximize their potential in the world.

In order to make this company:
-People have to know what they want to do and know how to approach to do it.
-Provide them with an environment and resource where they can pursue their dream and both it profits the company.

I looked into your LinkedIn and found you have wrote two books. I'm planning to read those but I would love to meet you personally if I can to feel what Cole have felt from you. I really want to be your student one day and learn from you so I can be closer to achieving my vision.
Thank you for inviting us to your class that day and if you give me this opportunity to meet with you, I will be one step closer to change the company cultures in South Korea and employee's family and their life happier than yesterday.

Thank you

From Shawn

Well thank-you very much Shawn~

You are one true, kind, entrepreneurial leader!  Your picture titles made me smile.
I love everything that you wrote, and feel  honored that you figured out a way to visit my class (I would have said yes, by the way, if you asked to join that day).
And, I especially appreciate the 5 take-aways on what you believed the class offered.
Yes!  These are great:

1. Help enable us to understand me and the world with our own reflection.

I hope to use reflective observation and active storytelling to...

2. Provokes our intelligence to dig into interesting questions.

My organizing questions evolve with the developing dynamics of the group.

3. Sharing stories with each other enables us to indirectly share other's experience and feelings which broadens my empathy and understanding about others.

The stories create a shared vision and helps each student step into another's shoes.

4. The words you put on the PPT was so distilled I loved to write it down.

It's always a challenge to make theoretical concepts come alive in a story.

5. David's writing shows how he tried to challenge his writing skills.

The students in the class work very hard and are tremendously kind to each other.

Your wisdom about Cole (the young CEO) shows me that you will change the world, and I can't wait to hear about the company you start...and the ways you generate creative environments...and help them thrive thrive thrive.

One correction - on linked-in titles are papers, not books (yet)
you can find some on Research Gate.

Can't wait to hear what's next Shawn,
~Barbara
